Choosing suitible and relevant features for my magazine

My school magazine had to include relevant stories to satisfy teenagers otherwise it will not get their attention. I decided to turn some aspects of school life into storys for my magazine and i came up with several ideas:

Christmas time at Knights Templar
Program/line up announced for the christmas assemblies!
Mr Pickering gears up his vocal chords for annual carol concert!

Teachers
Mr Ryan nets a major haul in fishing cup!
Mr Garret blows up S-Block in chemical shenanigans!

School in general
Man Up-10% off the gym!
Top 10 tunes in the common room!

Taking a picture for my front cover:

Every magazine has a cover picture, usually relating to the main story featured in that issue of the magazine. The photo had to be a mid shot to fit the requirements of the breifing. I wanted my model to be dressed in standard 6th form clothing- shirt, tie, blazer, but i didn't want him too look too formal because it may have put readers off buying the magazine. To achive this contrast my model had his top button undone, his blazer unbuttoned and his tie loosened.

Theme of the shot

The photo needed to represent the front cover story- a student winning the fantasy football league. I used a £10 note as a prop to represent the 'top prize'

The pictures
I like this photo because Charlie looks smart and a good ambassador for the front page of a school magazine but I chose not to use it because the £10 note isn't being shown and therefore the picture has no relevance to the main story on the cover.
1.

I chose to use this photo as my cover shot because I liked how the £10 note was being held up into the corner to make it seem bigger. Also Charlies casual pose with the blazer over his shoulder and loose tie and top button but smart shirt fit my criteria perfectly.
2.

I liked this photo because the angle of the shot makes Charlie look bigger than he is and therefore more important and impressive.
3.

I wanted to use this photo for my contents page because it linked nicely from the front cover photo but also the change in location offered a contrast between the two.

Brainstorming a name for my school magazine

The name of a magazine is extremely important. It grabs the readers attention and gives a general idea about the subject of that magazine. I wanted my magazines name to be relevant to the genre of the magazine. To do this i made a spider diagram based around 'School' to try and find a suitible name. Some of the names i came up with using this method were:
- Textbook
- School Life
- Top of the Class Magazine
- Back Row Magazine
- 6th Form Weekly

The name i decided to use was 'Model Pupil'. I chose to use this name because its name will appeal to aspiring pupils because it hints that it holds the key to being a good student. I decided to make the magazine a 6th form magazine because 17-18 year olds are most likely to buy and read a weekly magazine about school life.
